Hood Canal Bridge Project

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) replaced the east half of the Hood Canal Bridge, which was nearing the end of its structural service life. The project required a number of bridge closures, including one of five weeks.

Cocker Fennessy provided strategic communications services for WSDOT's Hood Canal Bridge Project in preparation for the temporary five-week closure of the bridge during construction. Cocker Fennessy developed and implemented an extensive partnership outreach plan, provided advice and technical assistance on news media and special events, designed advertising and graphics, built a large community outreach database, provided writing and presentations services, and managed public opinion research. With Cocker Fennessy's advice and support, WSDOT successfully built strong community partnerships, reached millions through a grassroots-style communications campaign, managed expectations during the closure, and avoided controversy.

SR 520 Bridge Tolling

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is implementing an all-electronic tolling program on the SR 520 Bridge, between Seattle and Bellevue. Tolls collected will help pay for a new, safer and more reliable bridge.

Cocker Fennessy is currently providing strategic communications, public education and implementation plans, government relations, constituent response services, and social media analysis and engagement for WSDOT regarding implementation of tolling on the SR 520 Bridge. Over the past year we have coordinated or staffed 130 presentations including 44 fairs and festivals. Social media engagement (Facebook, twitter, blogs) has resulted in more than five million impressions.
