WSF
Situation
Washington State Ferries (WSF) and the Federal Transit Administration are planning to relocate and build a new multimodal ferry terminal in Mukilteo. WSF retained Cocker Fennessy to help with public involvement and communication activities that are part of the planning and development process.
Cocker Fennessy's Work
- Provided strategic advice to the project planning team.
- Wrote a public-involvement plan.
- Planned community open houses, including making all logistical arrangements; producing newspaper advertisements and a media release; writing, producing and arranging for saturation mailing of a newsletter; designing and producing display boards and a project fact sheet; and providing staff support at the events.
- Arranged for presentations to local government and community organizations, and prepared handouts and slide presentations.
- Coordinated meetings with business owners to inform them about the project.
- Gathered public comments, recorded t hem in a database, and provided reports to the project team.
- Ensured that all legal requirements (NEPA/SEPA) were met for public notification and input, and ensured that people with disabilities were accomodated during all public involvement activities.
- Prepared and regularly updated the project web page.
Outcome
Community events for this project were well-attended and people submitted hundreds of comments to the terminal planning team. Most of the comments expressed strong support for the project.
